Dealers Indicted -- not so Sweet Sixteen

There were sixteen names of drug dealers in the drug trafficking ring whose names were in an indictment unsealed in April 2011 in White Plains, NY. These names have been gathered during the past full year of investigation, and the DEA and cooperating law enforcement groups have been tracking them down and arresting them.

The ring has been working in Yonkers and Bronx, NY and were referred to as the “4040 organization” because they worked mainly out of a home at 4040 Bronx Boulevard. The group has now been “dismantled” and as DEA Special Agent in Charge John P. Gilbride said, “they will not be peddling poison throughout 4040 or to any of their distributors in the future.” He added, Not only did we work the investigation from the streets to the source of supply and successfully arrested those responsible, but we took them out of communities and neighborhoods who have the right to live drug free."

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara stated, “The 4040 Organization allegedly operated like a veritable small business, with sophisticated sales and distribution arms. As this case demonstrates, we will not allow drug traffickers to disrupt and endanger our communities. We will continue working with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to take these people off the streets and bring them to justice.”

The defendants were expected to be arraigned on April 14, 2011 in White Plains federal court. If they are found guilty as charged of conspiring to distribute five kilograms and more of cocaine, they will receive sentences of 10 years in prison to life imprisonment.

Gratitude is due to the following law enforcement agencies for their hard work in rounding up these major dealers: the DEA, the Westchester County Drug Enforcement Task Force, the U.S. Marshals Service for the Southern District of New York, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations in Castle Point, New York, and the Yonkers Police Department.

It’s always encouraging to see the drug traffic stopped or slowed down in an area. Still, it is unfortunate that others may move into the newly vacated territory to set up shop. It’s good to know that the DEA and other agencies will have their eye on them as well.
